Research Ethics

All research involving humans—i.e., including research involving living participants, such as interviews, surveys, participant observation, and secondary use of confidential identifiable information, as well as research involving human biological materials derived from living or deceased individuals—must be proposed in a protocol and submitted for research ethics review and approval before actually undertaking the activity.

Protocol forms, submission procedures and links to guidelines and resources are available from the Office of Research Ethics.

The Canadian federal research ethics guidelines, the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research involving Humans, 2nd Edition (TCPS-2), are available at:
http://www.pre.ethics.gc.ca/policy-politique/initiatives/tcps2-eptc2/Default.aspx

The TCPS-2 online tutorial is available at: http://tcps2core.ca/login
