Assistant Professor Gözde Mercan has recently received the SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada) Insight Development Grant for her project entitled "How do L2 learners resolve ambiguity in complex sentences?".
The Insight Development Grants support new and regular scholars' research in its initial stages. The grants enable the development of new research questions and experimentation with new methods, theoretical approaches and/or ideas. Professor Mercan's experimental psycholinguistic project investigates how native speakers and foreign/second (L2) language learners of Turkish comprehend structurally ambiguous, complex sentences in real-time.
